Clothes on board.

We don’t have many clothes on board. Most are geared toward living on on boat in a warm climate and some cold weather gear for sailing.  We have enough clothes to last us about 2-3 weeks and all together fit in two large duffle bags (note: no suitcases on board, take too much space, the duffle bag rolls up small). We both have a few pieces of clothing for land travel and while in a marina, which are not all about fast drying and being practical. My purse is a dry bag, which I find actually kind of fashionable and gets me the occasional nod from a fellow sailor. I also have a light, small backpack which doubles as my second purse and folds up small.

For winter an travel in colder climates, we have some warm clothes on board (2 pairs of jeans, sneakers and a small-folding micro down jacket). We stashed a couple suitcases with Radu’s daughter in LA and a couple others with my mom in Berlin with land and big city clothes.

Before moving onto the boat we downsized, gave away things and sold some on Craigslist. Not easy to let go of so many things, but we decided to keep just enough to furnish a small apartment in case we don’t like the boat life and want to move back on land. So, we also stored several boxes of video and photo equipment in LA and keep a small storage space with precious things and the house hold things in Berlin. After 3 years on the boat, I am ready to let go of even more things from the storage.

Every three months or so we also go through the whole boat, clean out all lockers, check clothes for mildew and always find things we don’t need and can give away. Amazing, considering that we live on 250 sqft and still have ‘stuff’!

Other storage

I also store t-shirts, underwear in one drawer and a couple of small lockers on the sides of the V-berth. So does Radu. His clothes coming soon, when we are back on the boat this fall (2018).
