Hello from Beyond the Rainbow Bridge.

I have been here now for a few days and it’s grand. In case you don’t know what the rainbow bridge is, no worries, I didn’t know either before I got here. Nor would I have believed if anybody had told me about it. I would have thought that’s a place humans dreamed up to make themselves feel better about that their beloved pet had died. So, I thought they invented this place called ‘beyond the rainbow bridge’, a beautiful place with lots of flowers and flowering trees on rolling hillsides with waterfalls, lakes and streams. And mountains of cheese. Now, let me tell you that is exactly how it is.

I know, it was hard for my humans to let me go. I was old and my limbs were failing. My arthritis had gotten to me. Not good. I said it before and I will say it again that growing old is not for sissies. Luckily age comes on gradually and you can get adjusted to it. First you feel a little stiff once in a while and then more often. Before you know it, you feel stiff all the time and even the pills you are taking, yummy ones by the way, don’t help anymore. So you do less. Less walking, less jumping, more cuddling, more sleeping. That’s all right too. After a life of dog shows and raising 4 litters of puppies, my new humans brought me to a big city with lots of pet dogs and streets dogs and lots of action! Lots of people on narrow sidewalks, cars, shops, parks with more people and dogs and dog runs. And we traveled a lot, all over Romania and Germany, to the US and ended in Mexico. By car, plane and sailboat. I had a full life and I wouldn’t let getting old get in the way of it. It was fun, I loved sailing and tasting the air and being with my humans all the time. That was a great ending to my exciting life. And just when it was getting really bad, my humans made the good decision to let me go.

Here I am now, running and having fun with all those dogs here. As if they dipped me in that fountain of youth, I am young again. It is glorious. There aren’t any humans here and all of us dogs just live together like in a big family with all the other animals. We play all day and when we get hungry there is always a bowl of food or a chunk of cheese somewhere nearby. That’s why there are no fights or no hunting each other. There is enough for everyone. It’s just fabulous here! Some might call it paradise, but I had paradise on earth thanks to my two moms and one dad. So I too call this place ‘Beyond the Rainbow Bridge’.

Please don’t be sad anymore nor do you need to worry about me: I am great!
I miss you too.

Love,
Samba
